Dear Tyra, Dear Ashli, Dear WhatShellWeCallIt,...
It is meant to be Dear Abby on steroids.
How often do you read Dear Abby and how often do you agree with the advice given? The answer to the first one is often. The answer to the second one is not so often.
I never understood how long you have to wait to find out what Abby has to say. And how do you know if she will answer to you? Ever. Or sometime soon? How about improving this a bit? How about opening the answer part to the world, or at least to anyone interested in giving the answer. Well, Dr Phil already took care of that.
Nowadays people do know what to do when faced with a problem or dilemma. It is just that they can not decide between many options available. Or rather all options seem possible and neither is a winner. So faced with many options what do you do? You turn to you friend and say which one should I pick? One friend says this, the other friend says that, and you are still not sure. Or your friends help you identify another option that you just didn't see.
How about scaling this to all the friends you have, the pattern would emerge. 20% would say option A, 45% would say option B.
Say you are very blunt and that got you into trouble many times. You believe you should stay true to yourself, see what others say about that: Should one be allowed to speak one's mind?
Here is another angle to this:
Say you have a dilemma (which shoes to buy or whether to leave your boyfriend or not). Say you pick one, your life takes the turn very different from if you'd picked another option. If you are really at a crossroad and you wonder how different your day/month/life/career would be if you picked a different option. How would you find that out? Really there is no easy way to find it out.
